The Snake/Salt River basin serves as habitat for elk, moose, mule deer, big horn sheep, and antelope. GIS files outlining big game habitat for various species have been created by the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, and are included in the GIS mapping for the Snake/Salt River basin plan.
The Great Salt Lake Basins, Utah, Idaho, and Wyoming is one of 51 study units in the United States where the status and trends of water quality, and the factors controlling water quality, are being studied by the National Water-Quality Assessment Program of the U.S. Geological Survey. The Snake River Plain ecoregion is a Level III ecoregion designated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the U.S. states of Idaho and follows the Snake River across Idaho, stretching roughly miles ( km) from the Wyoming border to Eastern Oregon in the xeric intermontane terized by plains and low hills, it is Borders: Blue Mountains (11), Idaho Batholith .
