Susan Spann Appearances, Blog Aug November 8, Annie Bloom's Books, author events, betrayal at Iga, Portland If you’re in or around Portland, Oregon this Thursday (Aug ) I hope you’ll join me, along with fellow mystery authors Lisa Alber (Path Into Darkness) and Kerry Schafer (World Tree Girl) for the Three. Betrayal at Iga author: Susan Spann series: A Shinobi Mystery (Book 5) publisher: Seventh Street Books (J ) genre: Mystery, Thriller & Suspense > Mystery > International Mystery & Crime paperback: pages "foodie" read: No, but there's always a bit of inspiration from Japanese culture in Spann's novels. opening sentence: Hiro Hattori leaned into the wind .

After enjoying The Blade of the Samurai (Book 2), hosting a very interesting post from the author about Goshikimai: the Ninjas’ Coded Rice for Book 3’s release and being entertained by The Ninja’s Daughter (Book 4), I was delighted to have an opportunity to read Betrayal at Iga (Book 5).   Author: Susan Spann Series: A Shinobi Mystery #5 Publisher: 7th Street Books Release Date: J Rating: 5 Stars Reviewer: Jessica Higgins This is quickly becoming my favorite series! With Portuguese being evacuated from Kyoto, Hiro must take Father Mateo and his housekeeper Ana with him to Iga, which is the last place he.

I love mysteries of all kinds, and Betrayal at Iga is the first mystery that I’ve read that was set in s Japan. While the author does write with quite a bit of historical accuracy when it comes to naming conventions and terms for that era, Susan Spann’s writing doesn’t feel too dated in flow and emotional situations between characters.   My review of Betrayal at Iga. I’ve read all the books in this series and have been intrigued by the attention to detail Spann includes in each book. Betrayal at Iga is no different. There are insights to the 16 th Century Japanese culture that are fascinating—from the mindset of those in power to the callous way in which a life might be.
